Anthony Provenzano, also known as "Tony Pro," was an Italian-American mobster who was involved in organized crime in the United States. He was born on May 7, 1917, in New York City and grew up in the Little Italy neighborhood of Manhattan.
Provenzano rose through the ranks of the Genovese crime family and became a powerful figure in the labor union movement. He was involved in the Teamsters Union and used his influence to control the trucking industry and extort money from companies.
Provenzano was known for his violent temper and was suspected of being involved in numerous murders. He was also convicted of extortion, conspiracy, and other crimes during his criminal career.
In 1975, Provenzano was sentenced to life in prison for his involvement in the disappearance and murder of former Teamsters boss Jimmy Hoffa. He died in prison on December 12, 1988, at the age of 71.
